While interactive technology at the dinner table often feels intrusive, Lysbord counters this with its design: as warm as its analog counterpart, yet fully adaptable with discreet digital control, dissolving into the atmosphere.

The core functionality provides users complete control over their dining mood, reflecting a fully-functional prototype designed for personalization. Using Figma variables for the design & animation systems was the highest priority, to ensure a seamless user experience.

Users reflect their dining mood with three menus: color selection, blur amount, and flicker speed. Testing the digital UI design with the physical candleholder was essential to design the most immersive experience.

Designing the candleholder in the glass studio allowed a tailored form to meet the precise technical requirements of the digital prototype, creating a truly cohesive and synergistic product.

Prioritizing the entire system and minimizing user errors, it was vital for Lysbord to 'save' the selected states, which could be achieved by using Figma variables to power the design & animation systems.

Initially, rough prototypes for the menu and candle animations aided to visualize the structure needed to create a fully-functional and personalized experience.

This project reflects my passion to achieve a fusion between traditional craftsmanship and technological advancements, to enhance the user experience.

I am especially proud of maintaining human-centered design and motion design as my north star, while also implementing a complex animation system to promote personalization and user freedom.
